Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Our Learning Support Centre is in full swing now!

Our Learning Support Centre was launched in 2019 and is supporting some of our newly arrived pupils to access the curriculum whilst learning English for the first time.

In November 2019 we officially launched our Learning Support Centre. This is a number of small groups which are intended to support those children who need additional help to access the school curriculum, including those who have recently arrived from other countries with very little English.

Mrs Charles (Deputy SENCo) said 'The children who access the Learning Support Centre are taught through a highly bespoke curriculum tailored to their individual targets and needs, with the aim to give everyone the tools they need to access the curriculum within their classroom as soon as possible. The centre focuses on inclusion and supporting the children to become confident, independent learners. They are taught by highly trained staff who use a variety of approaches to meet the needs of the children. The response from children so far has been overwhelmingly positive.'

The children take part in hands on learning to develop their spoken language, reading, writing and maths skills. They also learn the skills they will need to enable them to take part in day to day school life.

Miss Iqbal (Leader of the Key Stage 2 group for Newly Arrived Pupils) said 'Today children in the Learning Support Centre have been on a learning walk around school. They wrote sentences about things they could see, collaborated with their talk partners to list adjectives and used their noticing skills to categorise nouns into singular and plurals! They have been working exceptionally hard and myself and all of their individual teachers are proud of the progress they are making.'

We look forward to developing our Learning Support Centre further over the coming months.
