Fit & Fed Sports Camp

Outta Skool is proud to be partnering up with Oasis Academy Clarksfield to deliver a 4-week Fit & Fed Summer Sports Camp. The sessions will run Monday to Friday, from 10am - 2.30pm, starting on the Monday, 22nd of July - 16th August 2019. The pupils at OA Clarksfield will have exclusive access to the camp.

The camp will be free of charge for children on free school meals followed by a day trip on the last day. Our activities will include Football, Boxing, Taekwondo, dance, team building activities etc. This is a response to beating holiday hunger as we will be providing a free of charge morning snack as well as a nutritious meal at lunch time every day. We will be reducing isolation as normally they would be stuck at home and not have free access to activities. This will also tackle inactivity during the summer holidays and give the young people something to talk about with their friends when they return back to school.

There has been extensive research by Sport England and charities like Street Games into holiday hunger, isolation and inactivity. There have also been newspaper articles locally by our local councilors confirming that holiday hunger is a big problem in Oldham. School holidays are supposed to be a fun time of the year, but for a generation of children from low income families it isn’t. Children are isolated because there are no free activity programs on offer, and they are at risk of going hungry because there are no free school meals, and studies from France and Austria have indicated it can take up to six weeks for pupils to recover from their summer holidays.

Outta Skool is a non-profit community organisation established since March 2009. Outta Skool is run by a very dedicated team of volunteers who believe in making a difference in the community. Outta Skool work with young people and adults to encourage a healthier lifestyle through sports, dance and fitness activities engaging hard to reach members of the community.  We currently have several projects running from OBA Millennium Centre, Honeywell Centre, Crossley centre, Greenhill Community Sports Complex, Kick Sonic and our very own LGA Studio. Our aim is to create opportunities for young people and adults to try new activities, excel in their chosen sport or take it up as a hobby and raise confidence, at the same time eliminate the major barrier that stops people from participating which is the cost.
