Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Assessment at Nursery

The school aims to meet the personal, academic, spiritual, moral and cultural needs of every child through a broad and balanced curriculum, where each child is given an equal opportunity to succeed.

Throughout their time with us, your child will be monitored by their teacher and teaching assistant to ensure that we are providing them with everything they need to hit their targets. If we ever have any concerns, we will of course arrange a meeting with parents or carers at the first instance, as transparency is key to a great partnership. What this means at Nursery level, is that we want to help your children blossom socially, and to gain the skills and knowledge necessary for them to achieve at KS1 and KS2.

Noticing Special Education Needs

We have a full Equality and Diversity Policy and Special Educational Needs and Disability Policy which all staff strongly believe in. We will do our very best to admit any child whose parents/carers wishes them to attend our Nursery. Staff are willing to undertake the necessary training if possible and are happy to work with other agencies to support any child and their family.

Please speak to a member of staff or if you prefer to the Academy SENDCO (Special Educational Needs and Disability Co-ordinator) to discuss any individual needs, and we will do all we can to accommodate you.

At Little Owls Nursery we ensure that all children attending the setting have a personal Learning Journey which records photos, observations and comments, in line with the Early years Foundation Stage (EYFS), to build up a record of each child’s achievements during their time with us. It will also show children’s developmental progress through the different age bands of the EYFS.

To help us achieve this in a more productive way, Little Owls Nursery use an online learning journey software called Tapestry. The policy sets out our procedures for the safe and effective use of Tapestry and the management of online learning journals, to ensure the system works to the benefit of every child, information is secure and safeguarding procedures are rigorous.

The staff can upload observations, assessments, photographs and videos of the children throughout their time at Little Owls Nursery.

This is a completely secure system, only the manager, the staff and the child’s parents will have access to the child’s learning journal and only parents who have signed the agreement will be able to have access to the system.

We encourage parents to be involved in the process as possible, not only by reading and commenting on the observations but also by uploading their own pictures and comments of their children for us to enjoy and add to the assessment process. This partnership creates a tapestry, which grows for your child to keep.

The staff will only use the school tablets, which have been bought for this purpose. Staff are only allowed to use the tablets in conjunction with their job role; no personal usage will be allowed.
