Within Nursery we encourage children to engage in a range of play activities which help the children to make progress in each of these key areas of learning and development:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
- Communication and Language.
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World.
- Physical Development.
- Creative Development.
Your child’s time in Nursery will be organised so that the children can choose from a range of activities and, in doing so, build up their ability to select and complete tasks. This is also known as Continuous Provision. The children are also helped and encouraged to take part in small and large group activities led by the teachers which introduce them to new experiences and help them to gain new skills, as well as helping them to learn to work with others.
The Foundation Stage environment is structured so that your child is able to develop, learn and grow into an independent and enthusiastic learner.
We treat every child as an individual and assessments will be made continually to ensure we are catering to each child’s individual needs.
The Foundation stage Curriculum allows children to develop at a level that is appropriate for each child, it is measured using the children’s age in months.
The children within the Foundation Stage will be working towards meeting the Early Learning Goals at the end of their Reception Year.
Read Write Inc. is the phonics scheme for Early Years Foundation Stage and learners who are new to English, which teaches them to read accurately and fluently with good comprehension. The children start by developing their speaking and listening skills. Children listen to the sounds around them and learn a variety of different nursery rhymes. Children then learn sounds in a discrete manner and then blend them to form full words and sentences. This process helps the children to become independent writers. We want every child to be the best reader they can be as we believe this opens up the world to children and gives them the best opportunity to succeed in life.
