Our Parent Guide to Supporting Your Child

At Oasis Academy Clarksfield, we value the support of parents in their child’s education. We encourage good working relationships with parents and equip parents with the skills they need in continuing their children's learning development at home. We do this through a variety of ways including:

  • Stay and play sessions where all parents are invited to attend. Reading is modelled to parents.
  • Parents evenings
  • Written academic reports
  • PCR meetings for children with SEND

What can you do to help your child?

Daily reading with your child is the most important activity you can do. Logging into your child’s Oxford Owl account and reading their ‘Phonics Ditty Book’ with them each night is a brilliant way to develop your child’s reading. Your child will also be given a book banded book to take home each week, reading this with your child daily will also help their progress in reading.

Tricky Words:

In Reception, children are expected to be able to read a set of tricky words. These are words which cannot be decoded and therefore need to be learnt by sight. Helping your child practice reading and writing their tricky words is a great help for both their reading and writing progress. There are lots of games and songs available on the internet to help you do this:
